Choose the combined action

  1. Open Triggers and choose an event, such as USB device connected.
  2. Set its action to Lock Windows, then restart.
  3. Set unwanted event actions to Do nothing and review any independent Windows locked rules.
  4. Leave General → Force apps to close off while evaluating the behavior, then click Save.
  5. Start Test monitoring (no actions) and reproduce the event with a harmless device.

Understand the sequence

In an activated release, the matching trigger requests a Windows lock immediately. Restart is dispatched when the app confirms Windows has locked. If the session is already locked, another lock request or timer is unnecessary.

If Windows refuses locking, confirmation fails, or the state cannot be verified at dispatch, the restart is canceled. The confirmation timeout is a failure limit, not a delay setting. Verified sign-in before dispatch also cancels a pending restart; sign-in cannot withdraw a power request already sent to Windows.

Keep the two profiles distinct

The combined action belongs to the normal Triggers profile. The Windows locked profile offers Do nothing, Shut down and Restart, because Windows is already locked there. When enabled, that profile controls its events while locked, including deliberate Do nothing choices.

Validate without sacrificing work

Review Event history after the dry run for the selected combined action and simulated response. Simulation confirms routing without performing a real lock or reboot; a controlled test of actual Windows confirmation needs an activated release and saved work.

Without force-close, applications or Windows policy can delay or prevent restart. With it, unsaved data may be discarded. This option requests a sequence of Windows actions; it is not a guarantee of power-off or resistance to interference. Compare direct USB shutdown with locked-only restart rules.
