Two profiles, two purposes

Normal monitoring is the profile you enable from the tray, after inactivity, or when a screensaver starts. The Windows locked profile is optional and independent. When enabled, it watches during a Windows lock even if the tray is grey and normal monitoring is off.

Configure the locked profile

  1. Open settings and select Windows locked.
  2. Enable the locked-state monitoring option.
  3. Set each event to Restart, Shut down or Do nothing.
  4. Test the relevant device behavior before using a power response.

There is no Lock Windows action here because Windows is already locked. A locked rule set to Do nothing suppresses the normal rule for that event; it does not inherit it.

Separate display events

A monitor connection, monitor disconnection and resolution/layout change are separate triggers. Display docks may also produce USB and power events. Sleep, docking and hardware drivers can make event sequences differ across computers.

Other available events

The profile can respond to resume from sleep, laptop power being unplugged, lid opening, and Remote Desktop connection or disconnection. Lid and power notifications depend on the hardware. Windows remote-session notifications do not cover every third-party remote-control tool.

What happens when you unlock

Successful Windows sign-in ends normal monitoring. The locked-state profile then waits for the next lock. DeskLatch must remain running in the user session to observe events. Optional heartbeat recovery can restart a crashed or frozen app; it is not protection against a determined administrator or a stopped process.
